New Horizons CTE Center offers 27 ‘trade’ courses to High School Juniors & Seniors to select from where they can have the opportunity to fullfill their required High School elective credit at one of our facilities for half of the school day. Students will earn Industry level credentialing and/or college credit for the class.

The deadline to apply every year is the week before Spring Break.  This year the deadline is March 15^th.

Applications for any given year open on October 15th and will close mid September of the following year.

Can I take more than one New Horizons class at a time?

You can apply as a Sophomore or a Junior. New Horizons only admits Juniors and Seniors for our CTE program.

We have an AM session that runs from 7:40-10:00am and a PM session from 12:15-2:35pm. Students attend CTE classes everyday (Monday-Friday) for 2 hours and 20 minutes a day. If a student attends New Horizons during the AM session, they attend their home high school in the afternoon and vice versa.

Most classes are offered during both sessions.  However there are a few exceptions. Please consult with your Counselor regarding scheduling ad review the program of studies guide.

Yes, there is assistance for any and all students with and without special needs. New Horizons supports the IEPs and 504 Accommodations that would normally apply to the student and remains in communication with parents, case managers, and guidance counselors at the home school.

The school division that the student attends will provide school bus transportation. Parent/ Guardian drop off is also allowed. If the student has a license and access to their own transportation, they may drive to and park on campus, providing they fill out an application for a parking pass and submit a copy of their license, registration, and proof of insurance.

We have 26 programs to choose from.

No. However, there is a fee associated with classes that covers materials needed. (This will vary per class) 

Fees will vary ($20-$300) depending on the trade class that you are accepted in. These may change every year. Fees will be discussed in Orientation and students have until Sept. 30th to pay them. The can also be found on the CTE Website.

You should receive notification from New Horizons welcoming you to one of their programs, in addition to being notified by your counselor at your home school. Notification Letters/ emails are sent out between April & July.

We hold two Orientations every year to allow new students & parents to come to the campus, explore classrooms, meet teachers & administors and hear classroom expectations. Career & Technical Education (CTE) Orientations are usually held in May & August. Orientation is MANDATORY for students who are accepted.

There are three choices that students have the opportunity to make when they apply. When students are not accepted into their 1st program choice, they are screened for their 2nd or 3rd choices only if there are still seats available in those programs. If you only listed 1 choice you will remain on the waiting list and may be chosen later in the year once a slot is available. STUDENTS SHOULD ONLY LIST CLASSES ON THE APLICATION THAT THEYWANT TO BE CONSIDERED FOR.If this does not happen you may also apply again the following year.

Not recruit, but provide information. We believe the best decisions are the most informed ones. Students should know what is available to them ahead of their Sophomore/Junior year so they, parents/guardians, and guidance counselors can plan their four year schedule, making adjustments as necessary. 

Yes you can. Many students earn certifications that allow students to begin working entry level positions in the field of study.We have a program called “The Good Life Solution” (GLS) Program where New Horizons facilitates partnerships with local businesses to transition students into the workforce. If you are still interested in attending New Horizons after graduation, we would refer you to our Center for Apprenticeship & Adult Training (CFAAT). Classes are offered during the evenings and online. Most of our classes are available through this tuition-based program. Visit Center for Apprenticeship & Adult Training for more information.

We have 6 programs that take 2 years to complete for certification (Auto Technology, Cisco Networking, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Dental Aide & Welding). We encourage students to complete both years. If you take a 2 year program as a Senior we will allow you to come back as a “post high” student to finish your credential the following year. If a student chooses to do that, they must cover the cost of tuition for that remaining year  (the school division will not cover tuition for a student once they graduate high school).
