ABOUT:

  • One-year program that provides students an opportunity to learn how to respect, safely handle, and treat classroom animals
  • Students understand the various breeds and species of animals and are able to identify basic requirements for veterinary care and general health maintenance

STUDENT STUDY:

  • Diseases, symptoms, treatment and preventative measures for each species
  • Animal nutrition, genetics, behavior and training
  • Origin of various animal species
  • Handling, grooming and feeding
  • Basic first aid, calculating dosages and administering medications
  • Routine technical, maintenance and office functions
  • Professional and ethical standards

  • 25 Students per session
  • CVA (Certified Veterinary Assistant) through American Allied Health (AAH)
  • Future Farmers of America (FFA)
  • Biology with a B average
  • (Recommended Courses) Anatomy and Physiology, Intro to Health Occupations, Medical Terminology
  • Veterinary Assistant/Animal Caretakers
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (A.A.S degree)
  • Veterinarian (DVM Degree)

Dr. Marti Dudley earned her veterinary degree from Ross University in St. Kitts and completed her clinical training at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. From 2014 to 2023, she served as an associate veterinarian in a small animal practice. Dr. Dudley joined New Horizons in the fall of 2024, bringing with her a diverse range of experiences and a passion for inspiring the next generation of veterinary science enthusiasts.
